How We Train

At the Canine Academy, we use reward training to obtain the behaviours that we desire.

This means that we use treats to reward our puppies for doing what we ask of them.

When any dog considers if it should do as we ask, it weighs up whether it is worthwhile to them. For example if a puppy is playing with a group of dogs and you call it and offer a basic titbit – it will consider the basic titbit against the fun that it is having with its playmates – NO CONTEST!!

If instead, you offer a piece of cheese or crunchy titbit, you might get another reaction.

Similarly, when you are in the hall with all of those wonderful distractions, your dog will not concentrate on you unless you have a delicious titbit to offer them.  So think about the titbits you use for your various activities.
